Architectural description
Torre del Oro
CONSTRUCTION PERIOD: 1220-1221
STYLE: Almohad architecture
FUNCTION: Military tower
It is an Albarrana tower that connected the south of the Alcázar with the Guadalquivir for the defense of Seville, the port and the battlements. It was built with a structure similar to that of the minarets, being a dodecagonal prism that houses inside another hexagonal one that contains, in turn, a staircase.
It consists of three bodies, the lower two, from the Almohad period, and the upper one built in the 18th century after the damage caused by the Lisbon earthquake.
