Sultan Muhammad V built his palace which he referred to as a happy garden.
The outbuildings are arranged around a cruise courtyard with the lions' fountain in the centre. 124 columns make up the porticoes that surround the courtyard; two opposing pavilions in the courtyard indicate the east-west axis; two opposing qubbas. behind the porticoes indicate the north-south axis.
