Basílica Catedral de Nuestra Señora del Pilar

CONSTRUCTION PERIOD: 1681-1765 | 20th century

STYLE: Baroque

FUNCTION: Religious.

CATALOGATION: Good of Cultural Interest. Historical heritage of Spain

This temple was built as an extension of the previous one, responding to the need to welcome the great influx of pilgrims who came to Zaragoza to venerate the Virgin of the Pilar. A single condition was imposed on the new design: the immobility of the Holy Column (the Pillar) and the image of the Virgin. It was designed as a large temple with a living room plan, structured in three naves of equal height with a roof of eleven domes and four towers at the corners.
